In a 2:1 judgement SC upheld the validity of this act on Apr 12.
Salient Features of this Act -
1. Free and compulsory Education to Children between age of 8 and 14
2. Reservation of 25% of seats for these children in Govt., aided and non-minority unaided schools.
It will come into effect from academic year 2012-13.
National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) keeps an eye on RTE's implementation
Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 provides for free and compulsory education to children within age group of 6 to 14 years and mandates government/ aided/ non-aided non-minority schools to reserve 25% of seats for them.
In April this year, SC had upheld the validity of this act.
Now, SC has refused to admit any more petition on this.
