The Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved the recommendations of the Justice G.R. Majithia Wage Boards for the journalists and other employees of the newspapers/news agencies, benefiting around 40,000 staff in the country.
The Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved a proposal to increase India's contribution to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to make it the eighth largest shareholder in the multilateral lending agency.
Union Cabinet also decided to infuse 3000 cr. capital infusion into NABARD.

  • Nandan Nilekani to head SPV on implementing GST.
  • National Manufacturing Policy(NMP) aims at augmenting the share of manufacturing in GDP to 25% from the current 15-16 % within a decade and create 100 million jobs. The policy had earlier received in principle approval from Singh but was delayed due to opposition from labour and environment ministries. The key focus of the policy is to improve the business environment and enable easy technology acquisition and development, provide access to capital for small and medium enterprises and enhance the role of the private sector in skill development. The focus would be on minimizing the government role and creating an environment of self-regulation . It also talks about flexibility in labour laws.

  • Empowering the investigating agencies, the Delhi High Court on Friday ruled that the fingerprints or specimen handwriting of an accused taken by an Investigating Officer during probe into a case was admissible as evidence even though a permission from a magistrate was not taken.
